What does the Bible teach about the concept of atonement?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that atonement comes through the sacrifice of Christ, which fully satisfies God’s justice.

Atonement is a foundational doctrine in Christian theology, emphasizing that our sins must be addressed for us to be reconciled to God. In Job 33:24, when it is proclaimed, 'I have found a ransom', it signifies that there is a substitute who pays the price for sin. This is powerfully fulfilled in the New Testament through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross, where He bore the punishment for sin (Hebrews 9:28). The concept of atonement illustrates God's justice and mercy — justice in that sin must be dealt with, and mercy in that God provided His Son as the perfect sacrifice, fulfilling the requirements of the law and allowing for reconciliation with sinners who believe.
