What does the Bible teach about the nature of sin?

Answered in 4 sources

The Bible teaches that sin is a rebellion against God and results in spiritual death, with only Christ able to deliver us.

Sin is fundamentally defined as falling short of God’s glory and rebellion against His holy commands. According to Ephesians 2:1-3, we were 'dead in trespasses and sins' and were by nature children of wrath. This natural state of enmity against God is indicative of our total depravity, which is only remedied through the sovereign grace of God. The sermon emphasizes that only Jesus can rescue us from our sinful condition, illustrating the necessity of His redemptive work on the cross, where He atoned for sin and rendered Satan powerless against the elect.
