What does the Bible teach about tithing?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible does not prescribe tithing but encourages believers to give as they purpose in their hearts.

In the New Testament, the principle of tithing is not explicitly commanded as a standard for Christian giving. Instead, 2 Corinthians 9:7 instructs that every person should give as they have decided in their hearts, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. This reflects a heart attitude rather than a fixed percentage. The call for generosity under grace is higher than the law; we are encouraged to give freely and abundantly, demonstrating our understanding of God's lavish grace bestowed upon us. True generosity stems from the relationship we have with Christ and our love for others.
