What does the term 'effectual' mean in relation to Christ's work?

Answered in 1 source

Effectual refers to Christ's inability to fail in saving those He came to redeem; His work guarantees salvation.

In Reformed theology, 'effectual' implies that Christ’s work on the cross accomplishes exactly what was intended: the salvation of His people. He is not merely offering salvation but guarantees it through His death and resurrection. When Hebrews 1:3 speaks of Him purging our sins, it highlights that this act was not a mere possibility, but an absolute and effective reality that secures redemption for the elect. Thus, His effectual work assures believers that their salvation is not in jeopardy, as it is anchored in His singular accomplishment.
