What happens if we try to mix faith with works?

Answered in 1 source

Mixing faith with works renders Christ's sacrifice of no effect in our lives.

Paul strongly warns against the mixing of faith with works in Galatians. He explains that if one believes that Christ's sacrifice alone is not enough and that adherence to deeds is necessary for salvation, they effectively nullify the grace of God. This error leads to being obligated to keep the whole law, which is impossible for any sinner. Therefore, any reliance on one’s own works for justification means one falls from grace and disregards the sufficiency of Christ's atoning work. Understanding that faith and works cannot coexist as means to God’s favor is critical for a believer to maintain a proper relationship with God.
