What happens to believers after they die according to the Bible?

Answered in 2 sources

Believers are immediately in the presence of the Lord after death, awaiting the resurrection of their bodies.

Upon death, believers enter into a glorious state of being with the Lord. This state is not a period of inactivity; rather, it is a conscious experience of fellowship and joy in His presence. The Apostle Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 5:8 that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. This reinforces the assurance that when Christians leave this earthly life, they do not enter a void or an unknown realm, but are welcomed into the presence of their Savior. Following this interim state, all believers will experience a bodily resurrection, glorified and incorruptible, affirming the full redemption of both body and soul.
