What happens when a believer sins?

Answered in 1 source

When a believer sins, their relationship with God remains intact, but their communion with Him may be disrupted.

The experience of sin in a believer's life can be troubling, as it may lead to a broken sense of communion with God. While the believer may lose the joyful assurance of Christ’s presence and face divine chastening, their standing before God is secure and unaffected by their sin. The basis for this assurance is God's grace, rather than personal merit, as found in Romans 4:8 and John 10:28. The Father chastens His children not to condemn them but to restore fellowship, exemplifying His continued love and commitment to their well-being. This reflects the unmoving nature of salvation rooted in Christ alone.
