What happens when God's Word has no place in someone's heart?

Answered in 1 source

When God's Word has no place in a person's heart, it leads to spiritual blindness and decay.

Jesus warns in John 8:37 of the grave consequences of rejecting His Word. Without a place for His truth in our hearts, we become spiritually blind and disconnected from the very source of life. Such a rejection fosters a hardness that denies the transformative power of His words, resulting in a life more susceptible to sin and despair. Essentially, when God's Word is neglected, it breeds destruction, as seen when individuals oppose the truth, risking the opportunity for redemption and genuine relationship with Christ. The danger is that these individuals may find themselves eternally lost, as the Word that could have saved them judges them on the last day.
