What is the difference between a good hope and a false hope?

Answered in 1 source

A good hope is grounded in Christ and Scripture, while a false hope is based on feelings or traditions.

A good hope is characterized by its basis in the person and work of Jesus Christ and the unchanging truth of Scripture. In contrast, a false hope may rely on subjective feelings, good works, or traditions that do not align with biblical truth. The example of Naaman illustrates the folly of trusting human thoughts over God's commands. Only through Christ, who is our righteousness and our hope (1 Timothy 1:1), can we have a confident assurance of salvation. It is important for believers to evaluate their hope against these criteria to ensure that it is not misplaced.
