What is the difference between God's righteousness and our own righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

God's righteousness is perfect and necessary for salvation, while our own righteousness is insufficient and viewed as filthy rags.

The distinction between God's righteousness and human righteousness is critical in Reformed theology. Romans 10 stresses that Israel sought to establish their own righteousness rather than submitting to God's. Our inherent righteousness is marred by sin and utterly incapable of earning God's favor. In contrast, God’s righteousness is found in Christ, who fulfilled the law perfectly. Believers are justified not by their merits but through faith in Christ, who provides the perfect righteousness necessary to stand before a holy God. This truth liberates believers from self-reliance and encourages them to rest in Christ's accomplished work for justification.
