What is the difference between God's will of command and will of decree?

Answered in 1 source

God's will of command is what He instructs us to do, while His will of decree is what He sovereignly executes.

God’s will of command consists of His directives and moral statutes given to His creation, which indicate how we are to live righteously according to His standards. These commandments include teachings such as honoring parents, refraining from murder, and living in truth. In contrast, God's will of decree refers to the unfolding of all events as per His eternal plan, which cannot be resisted or altered by human intervention. As captured in passages like Romans 9 and Ephesians 1, God's will of decree is effectively accomplished, governing all occurrences in history. Understanding this distinction helps believers discern their responsibilities and the truth of God's omnipotent control in their lives.
