What is the difference between law righteousness and gospel righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

Law righteousness demands action, while gospel righteousness declares that all requirements have been fulfilled in Christ.

Law righteousness operates on the principle of 'do,' compelling individuals to perform acts in order to be considered righteous (Romans 10:5). In contrast, gospel righteousness is based on the completed work of Christ, who has fulfilled the law on our behalf. The phrases 'do and live' reflect the inability of humanity to achieve righteousness through their efforts, whereas the gospel states that through faith in Christ, who has done everything required, we can rest in the assurance of our salvation (Romans 10:6-8). The distinction lies in the believer's reliance on Christ's work, rather than their own.
