What is the difference between mercy, grace, and justice?

Answered in 1 source

Justice is receiving what one deserves; mercy is not receiving the punishment one deserves; grace is receiving blessings one does not deserve.

Justice, mercy, and grace are fundamental concepts in the Christian faith that, while related, hold distinct meanings. Justice involves receiving exactly what one deserves, particularly in terms of punishment for sins. In contrast, mercy is the compassion shown to an individual who deserves punishment but is forgiven instead. It is not receiving the judgment we rightly earn. Grace goes a step further by not only offering forgiveness but also blessing the individual with unmerited favor and gifts, such as the relationship with God and eternal life. Thus, in the gospel, God's justice is satisfied in Christ's sacrifice, while mercy and grace are abundantly offered to believers, allowing them to enjoy a personal relationship with the Father.
