What is the effectual call in election?

Answered in 1 source

The effectual call is God's specific summons to those He has chosen, resulting in salvation and faith.

In salvation, the effectual call differs from the general call as it specifically targets those whom God has predestined for salvation. This call is declared through the preaching of the gospel accompanied by the power of the Holy Spirit, leading to a real and transformative response from the elect. As Paul conveys in 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5, the gospel came 'not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Ghost and in much assurance,' indicating that God's elect respond to His calling, confirming their selection. The effectual call assures believers that God actively brings about the fulfillment of His promises in their lives.
