What is the effectual call of God in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

The effectual call is God's specific invitation that leads the elect to faith and salvation.

In Reformed theology, the effectual call is distinct from the general call of the gospel. While the general call may go out to many, the effectual call draws those whom God has chosen to Himself, enabling them to respond in faith. This concept is illustrated in Romans 8:30, where it says that those whom God foreknew, He also predestined, called, justified, and glorified. The preaching of the gospel serves as the instrument through which the Spirit works to effectually call the elect, granting them a new heart and understanding to embrace Christ. It is through this call that individuals recognize their sin and need for a Savior, ultimately leading to their justification and eternal life.
