What is the Gospel and why does it divide people?

Answered in 1 source

The Gospel divides people because it confronts them with the reality of sin and the necessity of grace for salvation.

The Gospel is the proclamation of Jesus Christ as the only means of salvation through His death and resurrection. It is a message that divides because it is a 'savor of death unto death' for those who reject it, while offering 'life unto life' to those who accept it (2 Corinthians 2:16). In Luke 12:51, Jesus Himself states, 'Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division.' The message of Christ's sovereign grace confronts the pride of humanity, challenging people to abandon self-reliance and surrender to God's will.
