What is the message of Mark 10 regarding self-righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

Mark 10 warns that self-righteousness can blind us to our need for God's grace.

The account of the rich young ruler in Mark 10 illustrates the danger of self-righteousness. The young man, while outwardly moral, was blind to his inner sin and the futility of his attempts to earn eternal life through his own works. Jesus confronts him with the truth of his heart, leading to sorrow when he realizes the one thing he lacks is total surrender to Christ. This emphasizes that regardless of our outward appearances or moral achievements, we must recognize our utter dependence on Christ's redemptive work for salvation. Self-righteousness is thus shown to be a significant barrier to experiencing the grace of God.
