What is the nature of treasures on earth according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Treasures on earth are temporary, subject to decay and theft, and should not be the focus of our lives (Matthew 6:19).

The Bible portrays earthly treasures as inherently flawed and unreliable. In Matthew 6:19, Jesus warns against laying up these treasures because they are susceptible to destruction by moth and rust, as well as theft by others. Such treasures are often the result of human effort and are fleeting in nature. Ultimately, placing our trust in earthly possessions leads to disappointment, as they do not provide lasting fulfillment or security. Instead, believers are encouraged to seek lasting treasures that resonate with God's eternal purpose, thus encouraging a mindset and lifestyle that values spiritual growth and dependence on Christ.
