What is the purpose of God's chastening?

Answered in 1 source

The purpose of God's chastening is to instruct and correct His children toward holiness.

God's chastening serves multiple purposes: it instructs us in righteousness, strengthens our faith, and helps us grow into the likeness of Christ. As noted in Hebrews 12:10, earthly parents discipline for their own pleasure, but God chastens for our profit, enabling us to be partakers of His holiness. Chastening leads us away from sin and toward a deeper intimacy with God. It shapes our character and helps us conform to the image of Christ, as seen in 2 Corinthians 4, where our afflictions work towards an eternal weight of glory.
