What is the relationship between quickening and faith?

Answered in 1 source

Quickening precedes faith, as it is through being made alive that one can truly believe in Christ for salvation.

In sovereign grace theology, quickening is the divine act of making spiritually dead individuals alive so that they can respond to the Gospel with faith. Ephesians 2:5 refers to God's action: 'Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ.' This indicates that faith is a result of quickening; it does not initiate it. Acts 16:14 also strengthens this view as Lydia's heart was 'opened' by the Lord to heed the things spoken by Paul. Thus, faith is fundamentally dependent on the prior act of quickening—making faith possible as a natural response to the grace of God bestowed upon the believer.
