What is the relationship between will and preference in spiritual matters?

Answered in 1 source

The will always chooses based on preference, which is influenced by spiritual perception.

The relationship between will and preference is foundational to understanding human choices in spiritual matters. The sermon teaches that a person's will is only a reflection of what he prefers. Because the carnal mind is hostile to God, it does not prefer spiritual things (Romans 8:7). Therefore, a natural man will never choose what he does not desire. In this context, true choice can only come from the Spirit’s work of regeneration, which changes one’s preferences. This explains why human inability to choose God is consistent with the preference of the mind.
