What is the role of confession in maintaining fellowship with God?

Answered in 1 source

Confession maintains our fellowship with God by reminding us of our need for Christ and His cleansing work.

Confession serves to acknowledge our ongoing need for Christ despite our struggles with sin. In 1 John 1:7, it states that if we walk in the light, we have fellowship with God, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Confession is not merely recounting our wrongdoings but a recognition of our continual reliance on Christ for forgiveness and cleansing. It reminds us of the grace we have received and cultivates a closer relationship with the Savior. By looking to Christ and His sacrifice, we find assurance and comfort, knowing that our sins are forgiven and He remembers them no more.
