What is the role of conscience in God's judgment?

Answered in 1 source

Conscience plays a crucial role in God's judgment, serving as evidence of the law written in man's heart.

The conscience functions as an internal witness to God’s moral law inscribed in our hearts, as indicated in Romans 2:14-15. This innate sense of right and wrong leads even Gentiles, who lack the written law, to act in accordance with God’s standard, thereby offering them a basis for judgment. On the day of judgment, both the law and our conscience will testify against us if we have sinned, showcasing God’s perfect justice. However, for believers, their conscience is purged and restored through the blood of Christ, which enables them to stand with a clear conscience, not because of their own righteousness but because of Christ's atoning work.
