What is the role of the Holy Spirit in sanctification?

Answered in 2 sources

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in sanctification by applying the realities of Christ's work in the believer's heart and life.

The Holy Spirit's role in sanctification is fundamental, as He is the one who brings about the internal transformation necessary for believers to live righteously. As noted in Hebrews 10:16, the Holy Spirit writes God's laws on the hearts and minds of believers, guiding them to understand and embrace the grace found in Christ. This divinely initiated change empowers Christians to reflect Christ's character, enabling their obedience not as a means to gain approval, but as a response to the approval they have already received in Christ’s work. Therefore, through the Holy Spirit, believers grow in holiness and are able to live out their identity as those chosen and set apart by God.
