What is the role of the law in a believer's life?

Answered in 1 source

The law serves to reveal sin and highlight our need for Christ, but cannot sanctify or justify a believer (Romans 7:7-14).

In the life of a believer, the law's role is not to provide a pathway to holiness or justification but to reveal our sinful nature and our dependence on Christ. Romans 7:7-14 clarifies that the law is spiritual and good, yet it cannot bring righteousness to those who are already guilty. The law exposes our sinfulness, revealing the characteristics of God's holiness and our own inadequacy. It drives us to Christ, where true justification and sanctification are found. Therefore, believers are not under the law for justification, as their standing is secured in Christ alone, who fulfills the law on their behalf.
