What is the significance of being God's people?

Answered in 1 source

Being God's people signifies belonging to Him and being set apart to serve Him (1 Peter 2).

The concept of being 'God's people' encompasses the biblical understanding of a chosen and set-apart identity. In 1 Peter 2:9, we are told that we are a 'chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.' This signifies that we are called out of darkness into His marvelous light, belonging to God and reflecting His character. As God's people, we have a specific purpose: to proclaim His praises and serve Him in holiness. This identity provides comfort and assurance, as we recognize that we are loved with an everlasting love and belong to a covenant community.
