What is the significance of calling upon the Lord?

Answered in 2 sources

Calling upon the Lord denotes a recognition of our need and trust in His ability to help (Psalm 145:18).

Calling upon the Lord in truth reflects an acknowledgment of our desperate need for His intervention and support. Psalm 145:18 reminds us that God is near to all who sincerely seek Him. This act of calling illustrates faith; we are aware that we are unworthy but trust that He is willing and able to respond to our cries. Four examples in Scripture highlight this: the Canaanite woman, the centurion, blind Bartimaeus, and the woman with an issue of blood; each came with awareness of their need, confidence in Jesus's ability, and a persistent faith.
