What is the significance of God humbling us?

Answered in 1 source

God humbles us to reveal our sinfulness and need for a Savior, allowing us to experience His mercy (Psalm 39:5).

The humbling process conducted by God serves significant purposes in the lives of His people. In Psalm 39:5, the psalmist reflects on the brevity of human life, stating that our time is but a vapor. This perspective helps us understand our dependence on God and our inherent need for His saving grace. God often uses trials and afflictions to bring us low so that we might recognize our utter reliance on Him for redemption. Just as it was with Nebuchadnezzar, who recognized God’s sovereignty after being humbled, we, too, are brought to our knees to see our true condition and the necessity of seeking Christ as our Savior. This humbling is a path to spiritual awakening, leading us towards repentance and deeper relationship with God.
