What is the significance of 'It is finished' in the context of salvation?

Answered in 1 source

'It is finished' signifies that Christ completed the work of salvation, leaving nothing for believers to add to it.

'It is finished' encapsulates the complete fulfillment of God's redemptive plan. When Jesus declared this from the cross, He affirmed that all that was required for the redemption of mankind had been achieved. Jesus' sacrifice removed the need for further atonement, as His perfect life and death fully satisfied the wrath of God against sin. In Hebrews 10, we see that He established a new covenant, which is based on grace rather than works, signifying that believers are justified by faith in Christ alone and not by their own deeds. Hence, this statement is the foundation of our assurance for salvation.
