What is the significance of repentance in the Christian life?

Answered in 2 sources

Repentance is crucial for Christians as it represents a continual turning away from sin and a commitment to pursue God's righteousness.

Repentance is often misunderstood as a one-time act, but biblically it is a lifelong journey. The call to repentance is a call to acknowledge sinfulness and the need for Christ's redeeming work. As noted in Acts 3:19, 'Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...' This reflects an ongoing relationship with God where we acknowledge our shortcomings and seek His forgiveness. It involves a transformation of heart and mind—turning from sin towards God’s holiness. As believers, we are called to cultivate a life of repentance, which not only sustains our relationship with God but also deepens our understanding of His mercy and grace. True repentance leads to joy and assurance in Christ, as we rely on His power to continue sanctifying us.
