What is the significance of the old covenant being fulfilled?

Answered in 1 source

The fulfillment of the old covenant in Christ signifies that the practices and sacrifices of the old system are no longer needed.

The old covenant served as a framework pointing to Christ, revealing humanity's need for a Savior through the law and sacrifices. However, with Christ's sacrifice, as stated in Hebrews 10:9, 'He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second,' the old covenant is rendered obsolete. This fulfillment indicates that believers now have direct access to God through Christ, who is the true temple, altar, and High Priest. Consequently, the old system, which was a shadow of what was to come, is no longer necessary, allowing believers to worship God in spirit and truth.
