What is vain counsel according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Vain counsel refers to advice that contradicts God's truth and leads away from trusting in Him.

Vain counsel is defined as advice that does not align with the counsel of God and ultimately leads to doubt and fear. In Psalm 11, David encounters counsel suggesting he flee from his enemies; he describes this as vain counsel because it undermines the trust that ought to be placed in God. The true believer recognizes that following such counsel can divert one away from faith in God's sovereignty and power. The Scriptures teach us that we must heed the wisdom imparted by our Counselor, the Lord Jesus Christ, and reject any advice that promotes fear or retreat rather than faith and courage.
