What makes boasting about the future sinful?

Answered in 1 source

Boasting about the future is sinful because it shows a lack of humility and fails to acknowledge God's ultimate control over our lives.

In James 4:16, boasting about our future plans is condemned as evil because it demonstrates pride and an assumption of control over what is inherently uncertain. Such presumptions disregarded the fragility of life and the reality of God's sovereignty. By not recognizing that only God knows the future, we reveal a lack of trust in His providence. Therefore, humility and dependence on God are essential for a believer's attitude towards the future, as we should recognize our limitations and His greatness instead of making self-reliant boastful plans.
