What role do afflictions play in strengthening our hope?

Answered in 1 source

Afflictions lead believers to depend more on God's Word, which is the source of true hope.

Afflictions serve a significant purpose in the believer's life by directing their focus toward God's Word and His promises. Psalm 119:71 expresses, 'It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.' Trials can deepen our understanding of Scripture and enhance our appreciation of God's steadfastness. When believers face hardships, they are often driven to seek comfort and wisdom from the Bible, thus reinforcing their hope. God uses these experiences to grow our faith, helping us understand that our dependency rests not on ourselves but on the Lord's provision and grace inherent in His Word.
