What role does Christ play as our surety in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Christ acts as our surety, bearing our sins and guaranteeing our righteousness before God.

In the context of salvation, Jesus serves as our surety, just as Judah offered himself for Benjamin (Genesis 43:8). He assumes full responsibility for the redemption of His people; He represents us before God, fulfilling all the requirements for our salvation. Christ took upon Himself our sins and bore the penalty we deserve (1 Peter 2:24). By living a sinless life and fulfilling the law perfectly, He grants His righteousness to all who believe, thus achieving both justice and mercy for us. The assurance that 'the word of our God shall stand forever' (Isaiah 40:8) emphasizes that His role as our mediator is unshakeable and eternal.
