What role does faith play in our righteousness before God?

Answered in 1 source

Faith unites us to Christ, allowing us to accept Him as our righteousness.

Faith is the means by which we are justified before God, as it connects us to the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1 states, 'Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.' This justification is not based on our own merits but rather on our belief in Jesus as our substitute. Thus, faith is vital; it acknowledges our inability to achieve righteousness and recognizes Christ as the only acceptable sacrifice. Therefore, faith is the conduit through which we receive the righteousness that is necessary for our standing before God.
