What role does faith play in our standing before God?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is the means by which we are united with Christ and our standing before God is in Him, not in ourselves.

Faith plays a crucial role in our relationship with God as it is the instrument through which we are connected to Christ. The Scriptures assert that we are justified and accepted before God solely through our union with Christ (Ephesians 1:6-7). This faith is itself a gift from God, reinforcing that we do not come to God based on our achievements or worth. Rather, we approach Him through faith in Jesus Christ, who fulfills all righteousness for us. Our acceptance hinges on His finished work, encouraging believers to have full assurance and confidence in their standing based on Jesus and not on their own efforts.
