What role does mercy play in salvation?

Answered in 2 sources

Mercy is vital for salvation as it reflects God's compassion and grace toward sinners (Titus 3:5).

Mercy plays a fundamental role in salvation, as highlighted in Titus 3:5, which states, 'Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us.' This passage emphasizes that salvation is primarily an act of God's mercy rather than human merit. Mercy is the divine compassion that moves God to redeem sinners who are undeserving. It is through His mercy that we receive forgiveness and are justified. Furthermore, mercy is intertwined with grace, as it is by God’s merciful disposition that we are granted the grace necessary for repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Without mercy, our condition remains hopeless, but through it, we can see the richness of God's love and the assurance of our salvation.
