What role does prayer play in drawing near to God?

Answered in 1 source

Prayer is a vital means through which we invite God to draw us closer to Him.

In the call to 'draw nigh to God,' we see the integral role of prayer. It is through prayer that we express our need for divine assistance in approaching God. John 6:44 reminds us that no one can come to Christ unless drawn by the Father, thus our prayer should be one of asking the Lord to pull us to Himself. When we pray for this drawing and our total reliance on His grace, we open our hearts to receive Him fully. The preaching of Christ crucified serves as the means through which God calls His elect, emphasizing that prayer must be rooted in the recognition of Jesus' sacrificial love, thereby initiating our journey closer to God.
