What role does suffering play in a Christian's life?

Answered in 2 sources

Suffering teaches Christians reliance on God and develops spiritual maturity, leading to greater fellowship with Christ.

The role of suffering in a Christian's life is foundational for spiritual growth and maturity. As seen in Romans 5:3-5, suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Through trials, believers are drawn closer to Christ, as they learn to depend on Him in their weaknesses. Psalm 18 highlights that God's faithfulness during times of trouble not only assures us of His presence but also teaches us to cry out to Him with greater fervor as we navigate life's challenges. Such experiences lead to a deeper understanding of the Gospel and reinforce the truth that we are victorious through Christ, who suffered on our behalf.
