What role does the Holy Spirit play in our understanding of salvation?

Answered in 2 sources

The Holy Spirit enables us to recognize our need for salvation and brings us to faith in Christ.

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in the process of salvation, illuminating our understanding of our sinfulness and the need for grace. He convicts us of our unbelief and self-righteousness, guiding us back to Christ. As we see in Galatians, the Spirit is received 'by the hearing of faith,' not by our adherence to the law. The Spirit's work in our hearts helps us realize that we cannot earn our salvation through works, but that it is wholly dependent on Christ's finished work. This understanding opens our eyes to the truth of the gospel and leads to genuine repentance and faith in Him.
