What role does the Holy Spirit play in regeneration?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit is the agent of regeneration, bringing spiritual life to those who are dead in sin (John 6:63).

The Holy Spirit plays an essential role in the process of regeneration, as He is the one who empowers and applies the truth of the Gospel to hearts, effecting the new birth in believers. Jesus teaches in John 6:63 that 'the Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.' This highlights how spiritual renewal cannot be accomplished through human effort but rather through the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, who imparts spiritual life and understanding. It is the Spirit who also convicts individuals of sin and leads them to repentance, thereby fulfilling God's promise of a new creation in Christ.
