What role does the law play in relation to faith in Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The law serves as a tutor to lead us to Christ, highlighting our need for salvation through faith.

Galatians 3:24 describes the law as a schoolmaster meant to guide us to Christ. It reveals our sin, emphasizes our need for a Savior, and points us toward the faith we find in Him. Once Christ has come and fulfilled the law's requirements on our behalf, believers are no longer under the law as a means of righteousness. Instead, we now embrace the righteousness of Christ received through faith, which transforms our relationship with God from one of condemnation to one of acceptance and sonship. This change allows us to understand the true purpose of the law, which is not to save, but to direct us to the only Savior.
