What role does the will play in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

The will is significant because true salvation requires a willing heart to follow Christ and submit to Him.

The will plays a pivotal role in the process of salvation as it must be bent towards Christ in surrender. In the narrative of the rich young ruler, despite his desire for eternal life, his unwillingness to surrender his possessions ultimately hindered his salvation (Mark 10:22). Jesus articulates that while it is humanly impossible to earn salvation, with God all things are possible, including the transformation of the will. Scripture teaches that our will must align with God’s will, as highlighted in Isaiah 55:7, where we are called to forsake our ways and thoughts. It emphasizes the necessity of God’s work in our hearts to make us willing to come to Him and receive salvation.
