What should Christians understand about the nature of sin and the flesh?

Answered in 1 source

Christians should recognize that the flesh represents our sinful nature and that God commands us to fight against it (1 Samuel 15).

In Scripture, particularly in the story of Saul's disobedience, the Amalekites represent the flesh and our sinful nature. God commanded Saul to completely destroy them, which serves as an allegory for how we should view sin in our lives. The tendency to spare our 'Agags'—the parts of our lives that we prefer to keep rather than surrender to God—symbolizes a lack of true obedience and a misunderstanding of our own sinful tendencies. God declares war on Amalek from generation to generation (Exodus 17:16), which reflects His resolve against our sinfulness. As Christians, understanding this nature compels us to seek true holiness by relying on the Spirit and not on our capacities.
