Why are works important for Christians if we are saved by grace?

Answered in 1 source

Works are important for Christians as they demonstrate our faith and the reality of our salvation, though they are not the basis for our acceptance before God.

In the Reformed understanding, while we acknowledge that salvation is by grace alone, we also recognize that true faith inevitably produces good works. This aligns with James 2:17, which states, 'Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.' Good works are the evidence of our faith and a response to God’s grace, serving to glorify Him and testify to our transformation in Christ. They reflect our union with Christ and our gratitude for His tremendous sacrifice. Though they do not contribute to our salvation, they are seen as the fruits of a life lived in love and obedience to God.
