Why can good works be dangerous for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Good works can lead to complacency and the danger of relying on them for justification instead of faith in Christ.

While good works are necessary and valuable, they can become dangerous when Christians begin to rely on them for their standing before God instead of the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice. This is a key concern found in the church of Thyatira, where their commendable works were accompanied by compromise on essential truths of the faith. Good works should never overshadow the gospel, nor should they become a means by which individuals seek to justify themselves before God, as Paul warns in Galatians 2:21 that doing so nullifies the grace of God. Instead, Christians are called to maintain fidelity to the gospel while engaging in good works out of gratitude for salvation.
