Why can't believers mix law and grace?

Answered in 1 source

Law and grace cannot be mixed because they represent opposing systems of salvation and acceptance before God.

The Apostle Paul argues in Romans 11:6 that if salvation is by grace, it cannot be based on works. Mixing law and grace undermines the very essence of the Gospel, which is that Christ's fulfillment of the law secures our righteousness. If any part of our salvation depends on our obedience, it erases the sufficiency of Christ's work. Hence, understanding that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes is crucial in preserving the purity of the Gospel message.
