Why can't good works save a person?

Answered in 1 source

Good works cannot save because they are insufficient in earning salvation, which is a gift from God.

The Bible clearly states that good works do not contribute to one's salvation. In Ephesians 2:9, it is emphasized that salvation is not the result of works so that no one may boast. Isaiah 64:6 conveys that all our righteous acts are like filthy rags, underscoring that our best efforts are inadequate before God's holiness. Therefore, understanding that salvation is of God alone (John 1:13) reinforces the belief that human endeavors cannot earn a place in the kingdom of God; only God's grace can accomplish that.
