Why did Christ have to die for the Holy Spirit to come?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's death was necessary to fulfill the Father's redemptive plan and secure the coming of the Holy Spirit to believers.

The death of Christ was an integral part of God's redemptive plan, purposed by the Father to accomplish salvation. As noted in the sermon, Christ explained that His going to the cross was essential for the Holy Spirit to come to aid and guide the believers. If He did not die and return to the Father, the promise of the Holy Spirit would not be fulfilled (John 16:7). Therefore, His sacrificial death is foundational, establishing the pathway for the Spirit to dwell among His people and continue the work of revelation and sanctification in their lives.
